Beginning
Shauna & Anthony first met while attending college back in 2013. The pair had similar friend groups, and inevitably ended up becoming pals. “We really hit it off over a shared love of TV and movies”.
Planning
When it came to planning their day, the couple fell hard for the fairy-tale feel and history of The Station House Hotel in Co. Meath after viewing it only once!
“The Station House Hotel was the first and only venue we saw in person. From the moment we arrived, it felt like it was made just for us. The gorgeous gardens, the history attached to the building and the ceremony circle, and the fairytale feel of the entire area had everything we wanted. Dreamy fairy lights for the evening, the lush greenery in the dining hall, the stunning bridal suites and gorgeous bedrooms for guests.
Decision
The more that we visited for meetings and for the food tasting (which was incredible) the more we felt that The Station House Hotel was the right decision for us, every time we went there it just looked more picturesque. The staff, even on the first day we were there, were so welcoming and kind, you can really feel that it is a family-run business.”
The outdoor spaces at The Station House Hotel were another winning factor for the couple as they worked perfectly for the look and feel they wanted to create. “The look of the day was exactly what we wanted: Rustic and bohemian, and surrounded by nature. We were taking a bit of a risk to have so much of the day outside – from the ceremony and the drinks reception to the speeches – but by some miracle, we were blessed with gorgeous sunshine all afternoon.”
Wedding Day
Shauna was wearing Grace Loves Lace gown and blush sandals. I love how she styled it with relaxed curls and drop pearl earrings for a thoroughly romantic look. Fiona Harrison from The Make Up Studio created all of the gorgeous beauty looks, while Shauna’s friend Adrian Cullen looked after the bridal party hair.
During the ceremony, the couple chose to include an ancient Scottish ritual called the Oathing Stone which involves setting your hands on a stone while reciting your vows in order to set them in stone and bring a physical bond to your vows. The stone that the couple chose was from where Shauna grew up. What a wonderful wedding ceremony idea!
DIY Tips
Shauna was a proud DIY bride whipping up lots of great décor pieces to add an extra personal touch to their day. She designed all the stationery, the trendy table plan and the flower girl baskets. “Creating the DIY elements made the whole day feel more personal, it felt great to put an unique stamp on our day.” She adds, “Also, if you’re going to DIY any aspect of the wedding, enjoy the time spent with your partner while doing it, it was a very enjoyable experience for us and really added a nice touch to the day.”
Shauna and Anthony’s Advice
Shauna & Anthony’s advice to those starting to plan their day: “Don’t overwhelm yourself with too many options when it comes to vendors. Give yourself 2-3 options max per category, then decide with your partner what’s the best! The sooner that you pick the essentials, the more time you have to add little touches to the day to make it extra special.” We’d have to agree!
